The 56th Annual Grammy Awards are coming up this Sunday January 26th, and you may be surprised to see that newcomer country artist Kacey Musgraves is poised to steal the spotlight.  Kacey’s nominated for 4 Grammys this year — just as many nominations as Taylor Swift and more than any other country artist.  Here’s how it breaks down:

KACEY MUSGRAVES:

  1. NOMINATED FOR “BEST NEW ARTIST”
  2. NOMINATED FOR “BEST COUNTRY ALBUM” for “Same Trailer Different Park”
  3. NOMINATED FOR “BEST COUNTRY SONG” for her own hit “Merry Go ‘Round”
  4. NOMINATED FOR “BEST COUNTRY SONG” for Miranda Lambert’s hit “Mama’s Broken Heart” which she wrote and sang backing vocals on (Yep–That’s right–Kasey’s got 2 songs up for “Best Country Song”)

TAYLOR SWIFT:

  2. NOMINATED FOR “BEST COUNTRY ALBUM” for “Red”
  3. NOMINATED FOR “BEST COUNTRY SONG” for “Begin Again”
  4. NOMINATED FOR “BEST COUNTRY DUO/GROUP PERFORMANCE” for Tim McGraw’s “Highway Don’t Care” that also features Keith Urban

If you really wanna get down to brass tacks, Kacey’s also in on another nomination—as Miranda Lambert is nominated for Best Country Solo Performance for “Mama’s Broken Heart” which Kacey wrote and sang backing vocals on.

Both Taylor and Kacey are set to perform “live” on Sunday’s awards show and it’ll be interesting to see which country singer/songwriter ends up making the most speeches by the end of the night…

Other country Grammy nomination leaders include Blake Shelton with 3 nominations  for “Best Country Solo Performance” for “Mine Would Be You”, “Best Country Song” for “Mine Would Be You”, and “Best Country Album” for “Based On A True Story”.
