Should wedding guests give gifts based on the cost or is this bride just terrible?

Francois Durand / StringerA wedding guest in Australia was allegedly ridiculed by a bride after giving a gift that was apparently not expensive enough.
In a post the guest wrote:
“I’ve just been hung up on by an ex-friend whose wedding was a few weekends ago. She had a beautiful wedding, lots of guests, lots of wine and food. There were even fireworks when she and her new husband left – via yacht – to go on their honeymoon,”
The fancy wedding came with a big price tag – $250 per person. The bride expected the guest to match the cost with their gifts.
The woman claimed the bride said, "the cost of having me and my husband at the wedding was far more than the miserly gift we gave her". This was all before reportedly demanding “another $300 cash” to make up for the cost of their attendance.
The guest reportedly gifted the newlyweds $200 in cash and a $75 “designer candle”. But the bride didn’t consider that “a real gift.”
The writer of the post seemed to get various feedback. Some people support the bride’s feelings. They feel guests should give gifts based on the cost of the wedding.
The Morning Crew talked about the story this morning. Here is what our callers think of this woman.
