Amazon is Bringing a Grocery Store to Philly!
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 07: People shop at the newly opened Amazon Go Store on May 07, 2019 in New York City. The cashier-less store, the first of this type of store, called Amazon Go, accepts cash and is the 12th such store in the United States located at Brookfield Place in downtown New York. The roughly 1,300-square-foot store sells a variety of food items, prepared meals and Amazon's own meal kits. It is believed that by 2021 Amazon is considering opening up as many as 3,000 of its cashier-free stores across the United States. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
This is interesting! They already own Whole Foods, but I guess they want to make even more money.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the chain grocery stores will likely feature a wider array of products, compared to the Go stores’ relatively pared-down options:
“Many of the proposed locations are outside urban cores and cater to middle-income consumers. Apart from prepared foods, they will stock mainstream groceries such as soda and Oreos, people familiar with the matter said.”
I am assuming they did a ton of research before they decided to build these, but it just seems redundant since the whole point of Amazon is that they deliver. Ha.
