Saturday Night Live showrunner and creator Lorne Michaels is speaking out about dropping Morgan Wallen from the show's lineup on Saturday after he violated Covid-19 protocols. Michaels stated in an interview with the TODAYshow, "He probably isn't the first country singer, the first person from rock and roll who partied after a big, in that case, a football game, or a concert," Michaels tells Willie Geist. "We're just living in a different time, and everything is scrutinized."

Wallen took to social media on Wednesday (October 7th) to announce that his SNL appearance scheduled for that Saturday had been cancelled. The news came days after multiple videos showed the singer partying without a mask with fans in multiple locations. This happened after he attended the University of Alabama football game on October 3rd. Wallen apologized to the show, his fans and his team "for bringing me these opportunities, and I let them down."
Wallen said Michaels spoke to him directly. He said, "Lorne Michael actually gave me a lot of encouragement by letting me know that we'll find another time to make this up. So that means a lot to me."
