A sanitation worker from Florida is being hailed a hero after saving a little boy from being crushed in the back of a garbage truck.

Elias Quezada, a 7-year-old from Florida was hiding in his grandmother's trash can when a Waste Connections truck came and dumped the trashcan inside the truck.

“I got picked up and thrown, to where I was going to be a mashed potato,” Quezada said.

Amazingly, Waldo Fidele, the driver of the truck was watching the surveillance camera and saw something drop.

Without hesitation Fidele shut off the truck's blade and immediately called 911, saving the boy's life.

“I’m very thankful that he was looking at that camera at that time and he acted so fast because otherwise, he wouldn’t be here,” said the boy's grandmother Salazar.
