According to Philly Metro, Martin Luther King Drive, which has been closed to cars for more than a year, is ready to reopen to motor vehicles next month!
The road is typically closed weekends May through October, but the road, formerly known as West River Drive, was shut down in May of 2020 in an effort to provide additional recreational opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. If you’ve ever run or taken a bike ride along the route, you know it wasn’t the smoothest!
During the “down time” the city decided to repave and restripe the roadway. Now that the work is complete and more of us are traveling to work the extra weekday space is needed. The reponening is scheduled for August 4th. Read more here.
