Thomas Rhett is releasing his new album Where We Stand, out Friday (4/1), on cassette. For those who aren't sure what a cassette tape is, the dictionary definition is "a compact case containing a length of magnetic tape that runs between two small reels, and for years, it was the dominant format for music, overtaking vinyl in popularity. It would later lose popularity after CDs became the dominant format.

Thomas posted a video on Instagram of himself putting the new cassette in a player that he bought on Amazon; he said, "I haven't held a cassette for about twenty years." He captioned the post, "Who remembers their first cassette tape?! The new album is available on blue cassette tape with added commentary exclusively on my website. Not too late to pre-order one! Link in bio!! #wherewestarted."

In an interview last week about his new album, Rhett said, "I feel like this record has a song, literally, for everybody on there. All types of different emotions and very versatile – not only from a lyric standpoint but from a melody standpoint. It's one of my favorite records I've gotten to be a part of. I don't know; I think a lot of people have heard some of these songs – me playing teasers on social media."
