Shania Twain Is Crowned ‘The Queen Of Karaoke’
Billboard named Shania Twain number one in their “100 Greatest Karaoke Songs of All Time.” Shania’s 1998 classic “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” topped the list that included songs by Heart, 50 Cent, Liza Minnelli, Billy Joel, Destiny’s Child, The Killers, Cher, Queen, and Carrie Underwood.
Twain reacted to the news on Instagram sharing a clip of the article and a moment when she surprised a fan by joining him in singing her song Karaoke style. She captioned the post, “I think @billboard just crowned me the Queen of Karaoke?! Seriously though, it’s really really cool to see the life that ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman!’ has taken on, and I’m just obsessed with you all.”
She added, “I’m not much of a karaoke singer (I’m actually quite bad at it ), but I do love watching other people do karaoke, so… show me what you’ve got! Tag me in your karaoke videos.”
Billboard reacted to the post with the Queen emoji. A bunch of fans also responded, including one who commented, “Have loved your music since I was a child. I don’t even have to be drunk or at a karaoke bar to belt out this tune, though (and I don’t care if others are around).” Another fan said, “Congratulations! This music will live on for years. I’m 75 and prefer this any day to a prescription drug. Sends wonderful vibes.”
One more fan wrote, “This song is the most incredible song of all time!!!”
Shania said the lyrics for “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” were based on her experience while working at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario. She recalled seeing some drag performers working at the resort and credits them as the source of her inspiration. She said of the song’s writing, “There was no time to waste on ideas that wouldn’t make the album, but something like [the song] was just there. I was inspired right off the bat with that one, for example, by a riff Mutt had going, and the lyrics and phrasing just came out of the blue.”
