Philadelphia Eagles: Tech Billionaire Bets on Team Winning Super Bowl LVI
If you are a Philadelphia Eagles fan and want to see the team win Super Bowl LVI next February, then you are in good company. This should make a lot of Pennsylvania peeps happy, including all my Eagles-loving friends.
Last week, the very first sports bet was placed from outer space on SpaceX’s Inspiration4, the debut all-private orbital mission around Earth. It’s actually a charitable trek to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, which happens to be one of my favorite charities.
The commander of Inspiration4 is Jared Isaacman, the billionaire founder of Shift4 Payments. From outer space, Isaacson went to BetMGM to place two NFL bets, each for about $4,000 with a potentially huge payout on the Eagles Super Bowl selection. His first bet was putting down cash on the New York Giants and Washington Football Team scoring a combined 41 points on “Thursday Night Football.” Washington won 30-29.
The Eagles, despite such a great season, still only have 66-to-1 odds of winning the Super Bowl. If the Eagles somehow do it, Isaacson will score $268,000. Nice. All proceeds from both bets will go to St. Jude’s in Memphis. Isaacson already has pledged $100 million out of his own picket to the cause, money toward the hospital, with a fundraising goal of $200 million. Now we have even another reason to root for the Eagles: If this bet goes through, St. Jude’s will benefit bigtime. I love to see charity incentives such as this one. Fly, Eagles, Fly.
