Keith Urban Says Country Music ‘Tribe’ Is Getting ‘Ripped Apart’
Keith Urban does not talk politics in interviews or at his shows. He simply wants to play for fans from all walks of life who have different beliefs.
In an interview we did with Keith just this week, he discussed the joy he gets from being a part of the country music family. He said, “It feels like a tribe, and we’re really a tight family, and we all need each other. At the end of the day, we’ve all got something to offer each other, and that communal fabric is really important to maintain.”
He adds that he feels that community is being tested. “It’s getting ripped apart right now for multitudes of reasons, and I think keeping it strong and keeping it together is really important.”
While Urban did not specify why that “family” is being “ripped apart.” (One might assume he’s referring to the different politics of various country superstars.) He did say that he also gets joy from overcoming his own trials in life. He offered, “All I know is my life has, like a lot of people’s lives, contrasted from a lot of self-destruction and struggle in my life that I was able to get through with a strong faith and strong support of friends and family.”
He concluded, “That contrast gives me real gratitude for what I get to do musically, as a husband, as a father, as a part of this community, part of the tribe of us artists here.”
Keith recently announced a new headlining Las Vegas residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, opening Friday, March 3, 2023, for a run of 16 dates.
