Kelsea Ballerini Quotes Morgan Evans Song In SNL Performance
Last night, Kelsea Ballerini made her Saturday Night Live debut. She performed two songs from her recently released surprise EP, Rolling Up The Welcome Mat.
First, in a performance piece that saw her dancing with a silhouette behind a screen, she performed “Blindsided.” As fans on Twitter noticed, she added extra lyrics to the song. The new lyrics reference a song by her ex-husband Morgan Evans. In “Over For You,” Evans sings, “I would have searched the whole world over for you/Took a flight, through the night/To be that shoulder for you/and I would’ve let go if you wanted me to.”
In the new lyrics to “Blindsided,” Ballerini sings, “Now you’re singin’ it loud on the radio like you’re the only heart that breaks / You would’ve searched the whole world over? Yeah, sure, OK.”
As one fan on Twitter said, “Kelsea Ballerini on SNL, adding a new coda to her song that quotes a lyric from her ex-husband’s current hit and calls bulls— on said lyric, is some Taylor Swift-level breakup song savagery. I am here for it!” Another said, “kelsea ballerini is a savage for that new ending to blindsided omg.” One fan pointed out, “Taylor Swift: I’m going to write some songs and leave millions of people guessing who they’re about. Kelsea Ballerini: I’m going to write an entire album about one guy and use the SNL stage as an exclamation point #beautifullysavage.” One fan commented: “I want yeah sure okay tattooed on my face.
She then performed “Penthouse,” accompanied only by a piano player.
