New Cheese Shop Third Wheel Cheese Opening in Philly
As an avid lover of cheese and someone who makes charcuterie boards for fun this news is extra exciting for me. Third Wheel Cheese has been supplying the Philadelphia region’s restaurants and retailers with their cheese selections and is now opening a retail location.
Third Wheel Cheese will have a grand opening on June 8th with the shop located at 705 S. 50th Street, in the front of their wholesale warehouse. The shop will carry an array of farmstead and artisan cheeses. With a commitment to supporting local farmers and producers, the shop will showcase the region’s flourishing cheese making scene and encourage the community to buy local.
“We’ve spent the past 6 years behind the scenes as a liaison between the producer and the chef – a third wheel, so to speak. We’re so excited to now open our doors and offer that same curated selection of cheese to the public,” said Ann Karlen, founder of Third Wheel Cheese. “We are proud to partner with over 30 exceptional small to mid-scale farmers and artisan producers to ensure that our customers can access an extraordinary selection of regional cheeses.”
In addition to their cut-to-order cheeses, Third Wheel Cheese will curate a fun assortment of accompaniments, including charcuterie from Meat Crafters and Charlito’s Cocina, artisan crackers from 470 Baking Co., Brewer’s Foods, and Ines Rosales, as well as delectable jams, preserves, and marmalades from Eat This Yum, Habitat Farms, Girl Meets Dirt, and Small Batch Kitchen. The shop will also offer mustards from Old Brooklyn Mustards, local honey from Mill Creek Apiary, Miller’s Apiary, and Habitat Farms, organic nuts and dried fruit, and a selection of olives.
Which, if you too are like me and enjoy making charcuterie boards, makes Third Wheel Cheese a one stop shop for all your essentials for curate the perfect board.
“We aim to provide our customers with an extraordinary cheese experience, complemented by a thoughtfully curated selection of accompaniments that enhance the flavors and textures of our cheeses,” added son and Operations Manager, Caleb Arters. “We are excited to invite everyone to explore the possibilities and discover their new favorite cheese.”
As a testament to their commitment to the community, Third Wheel Cheese operates a neighborhood buying club called Pandemic Pantry, better known by locals as “PanPan,” on Fridays and Saturdays. What began as a solution to address the challenges posed by the early days of the pandemic has blossomed into a beloved local food grocery option. Visitors can peruse the PanPan retail table for fresh produce to pair with their cheeses.
Third Wheel Cheese will open its doors to the community during the following hours:
- Thursday: 1pm-6pm
- Friday: 1pm-7pm
- Saturday: 10am-5pm
- Sunday: 10am-5pm
