Ivan Provorov Reportedly Traded to Blue Jackets, Sign Of More To Come?
With the entrance of Danny Briere and Keith Jones into the Flyers’ Front Office, we knew there would be some moves coming. The Flyers were finally publicly committing to a rebuild. And now we know what the first piece to move will be. Ivan Provorov is apparently being moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a 3-way deal. As reported by Elliotte Friedman.

I believe Provorov will end up in Columbus and Cal Petersen in Philly. Not sure of all pieces.

Provorov was drafted by the Flyers in 2016. He was billed as the next great defenseman. And while he showed flashes of that type of talent, it never quite materialized in Philly. He has struggled here a bit in the past few seasons. And a controversy with him not wanting to participate in the team’s Pride night soured a relationship already on the rocks.
The interesting part is not what is going away though. Ivan Provorov was top of the list of guys that would moved in the fire sale. What is interesting is who is coming back. Friedman is reporting that LA Kings Goalie Cal Peterson is returning here. Which is interesting, because the Flyers already have two goalies in Carter Hart and Samuel Errson. Which makes you wonder, what is up?
Could this be setting up a Carter Hart trade? Of all the people on this team, Hart is the guy who will bring back the biggest haul. They really loved what they saw from Errson last year. Even last season his play was good enough to get people talking about a potential Carter Hart move.
The Flyers trading Ivan Provorov for a goalie won’t do anything to dissuade those rumors. They aren’t going to just add a goalie for no reason.
Could Carter Hart be the next domino to fall? Both Keith Jones and Danny Briere have teased they would be open to moving anyone. That includes the franchise goalie.
Also coming back in the deal is Kings Defenseman Sean Walker, and the Kings 1st Round pick (Pick 22) which the Bluejackets already owned from a prior trade. It is also being reported that the Flyers will get a 2nd round pick, and defenseman prospect Helge Grans.
