Pennsylvania ‘Must-Visit’ Vacation Spot is Close to Home

Pennsylvania has so much rich history and plenty of fantastic spots to visit during the busy travel season. As it turns out, one Pennsylvania “must-visit” vacation spot is very close to the Philadelphia area. Even if you live in a different part of the state, read on, because I’ll include more travel options, too.

VisitPA.com has put together a list of the “must-visit” place in Pennsylvania for 2023. “A new year calls for new adventures throughout the Keystone State!” they state in the article. “We asked Happy Travelers what hot spots and must-see places are on their #PABucketList for the upcoming year.” So, the list is actually from people who visited these spots.

Taking the No. 1 spot is Punxsutawney Phil’s Prognostication at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney. I totally wouldn’t have thought of that as a vacation destination, but it’s a popular destination. “Visit the site where, every year in early February, the country’s most beloved rodent, Punxsutawney Phil, makes his annual prognostication,” they state in the article. “Watch and dance along to performances on center stage, keep warm with hot beverages, and witness as the legendary Phil declares six more weeks of winter or the start of an early spring.”

Pennsylvania ‘Must-Visit’ Vacation Spot is Close to Home:

Since that area is pretty far from Philadelphia, what’s a closer spot? Coming in at No. 4 is the idea to “Shop ’til you drop in the quaint Peddler’s Village” in Lahaska, which is about 55 minutes away. The village offers 65 quaint shops and six restaurants on 42 acres of landscaped gardens and brick pathways. If you’re wondering about the rest of the list, coming in at No. 3 is “reaching the peak of 1,000 steps” in Mapleton. No. 2 is to “walk amongst the clouds at Kinzua State Park and Sky Walk Mt.   • Yellowstone Lake, Wyoming

  • Lake Tahoe, California and Nevada

    The famous Lake Tahoe is located right on the state line between California and Nevada. It’s stunning, as it is surrounded by the glorious Sierra Nevada Mountains. This is the largest alpine lake in North America, making it a must-see lake.

  • Lake Santeetlah, North Carolina

    Here’s a special lake located within the Nantahala National Forest and surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains. This is also a very pure lake, as its shoreline is mostly protected from development. It’s a beautiful destination for fishing, jumping in a canoe or kayak or a picnic.

  • Hanging Lake, Colorado

    Hanging Lake is so glorious. It’s located in the middle of Glenwood Canyon in the White River National Forest, and it’s actually part of the Southern Rocky Mountains. This lake “was formed by a geologic fault which caused the lake bed to drop away from the valley floor above,” according to the USDA Forest Service, and is a designated National Natural Landmark.

  • Lake Superior, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan

    The Great Lakes are, of course, some of the most famous lakes in the world. One that’s often left of best-of lists is Lake Superior. It’s the largest freshwater lake in the world and has a whopping 10% of the world’s surface freshwater. Drink up.

    Lake Jocassee is in the Appalachian Mountains, and it’s actually a man-made reservoir. Its water flows from the mountains. This is another lake known for its very clear water, so you get to see all the fish and underwater creatures when you look down into the water flow.
