PHOENIX, ARIZONA - OCTOBER 21: Kyle Schwarber #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies celebrates with Trea Turner #7 and Bryce Harper #3 after hitting a solo home run against Zac Gallen #23 of the Arizona Diamondbacks during the sixth inning in Game Five of the National League Championship Series at Chase Field on October 21, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona. What a treat! Phillies stars Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Nick Castellanos spent a winter vacation together with their families. The Eagles might have us in a bad mood, but knowing our Phillies are spending vacations together and that it’s less than two months until Pitches and Catchers report to Spring Training, gives us a glimmer of hope.
Their wives posted a lot of fun pics frolicking in a winter wonderland. From the looks of the posts, it seems they were in Idaho and Wyoming.
It’s important to take note that Rhys Hoskins wasn’t on the trip and neither was Kyle Schwarber. There have been a lot of talks that we might not only lose some hair in the off season, but we might lose two of our players. We know that Bryce is definitely back, but we weren’t sure about a few of our other star players. Now we know, at least two are definitely coming back.
There have been so many rumors about players leaving the team, and we have been waiting to hear what will happen with Rhys Hoskins, Aaron Nola, and Nick Castellanos. We found out a few weeks ago that Bryce Harper will officially continue playing first base, which means it’s most likely Rhys Hoskins is done as a Philadelphia Phillie. It’s a hard pill to swallow for a lot of fans, as Rhys not only has been on the team the longest of the current players, he’s played his heart out especially when the team wasn’t good. And he and his wife also did so much for the city.
We know sports is a business, but the worst part is when your favorite players leave. Rhys obviously was out all of last season after he tore his ACL at Spring Training. We were hoping if the Phillies made the World Series, he would be able to come back and play. Unfortunately, that never happened and it looks like Rhys will end his career playing for another team.
Enjoy the Phillies group shot, and there are more pics from the player’s wives below.

Phillies Rival Most Likely To Sign Rhys Hoskins
There are a lot of questions facing the Philadelphia Phillies this offseason but the first and biggest was whether or not to sign Rhys Hoskins. Bryce Harper took over as the primary first basemen for the Phillies after the All-Star break begging the question, what about Rhys Hoskins?
It seems like when asked, Bryce Harper said he would be willing to play anyway and that’s when General Manager Dave Dombrowski made the decision to have him continue the duties at first base and allow Hoskins to find other options. More from the Philadelphia Inquirer on that.
He was a critical part of the 2022 run to the World Series including this epic homer against Spencer Strider (shh) and the Atlanta Braves (boo).
Rhys Hoskins Injury
This was what is known as his “contract year” meaning the final year in his deal to be able to convince the Phillies (or another team) to sign him for a lot of money. Expectations were high and then, unfortunately, an injury in Spring Training ended his season before it even started.
Here is a video of the injury back in March, right before the season was set to begin. A non-contact left knee injury that led later to surgery.
Will They Let Rhys Hoskins Walk?
It seems like at this point they will. As explained above and explained in the Philadelphia Inquirer post, it seems like Bryce Harper will become the full-time first baseman and Rhys Hoskins will get to explore other options during free agency. But where will he go? And will he end up facing the Phillies a couple of times in the regular season, the playoffs, or (God forbid) the World Series? We break down the options below.
Let’s start with his history, where it all started, and where it is today.
