It’s about TIME that a starting Phillies pitcher really decided to make a huge impact for a long portion of a game. Call it management or workload, it’s just you don’t see pitchers going past the seventh inning much anymore.
In fact, this is only the second complete game and second complete game shutout of the season. The other? Ronel Blanco of the Houston Astros who threw a no-hitter as well.

A big congrats to Ranger Suarez for this huge accomplishment. Baseball has changed massively since it’s beginning. Pitchers used to finish games all the time, now not so much. In fact, pitchers are throwing harder now than ever before. That leads to fatigue and injury more often so most pitchers are kept on pitch counts.
Watch the celebration here!
Who Is Ranger Suarez?
He was signed as an international free agent in 2012 out of our the Venezuelan Summer League. But it wasn’t until 2018 for him to make his Major League debut. 2022 was a big year for Suarez being named the third starter on the Phillies rotation. He helped them to a National League pennant that year.
