Paul George Coming To Philly

This is a free agent signing, not a trade, which is something to keep in mind here. The Philadelphia 76ers didn't have to give up a bunch of young draft picks or anything to get George dressed in red, white and blue. They signed him to a four-year, $212 million contract.

He will join Joel Embiid, Kyle Lowry, Tyrese Maxey, Tobias Harris and many others at what is being seen as a real push to win an NBA Finals with this team they have before they blow it all up and start a rebuild. Paul George will add a veteran presence and winning mentality to this team!

The Rocky Statue

Rocky. He is a character that embodies everything that Philadelphia is. He is a champion who has seen his fair share of failure. He is flawed, but persistent in his quest for perfection. He is a fighter. He is the underdog. He is blue-collar and gritty and will not take no for an answer. He has a big heart and is vulnerable - which only makes him stronger.

The Rocky statue stands at the base of the steps of the Museum of Art in Philadelphia. The steps he famously ran up in his gray sweatsuit, knit beanie, and black Chuck Taylors. The same steps to which fans flock to recreate that empowering moment.

The History

According to Visit Philly, the statue was created in 1980 for a scene in the movie Rocky III. After which, Sylvester Stallone donated it to the City of Philadelphia. In 2006 the statue was placed at the base of those famous steps, and since then, it has become one of Philly's most famous pieces of art and most visited attractions. Taking a photo with the Italian Stallion is absolutely free, as is the climb up to the Art Museum, but keep in mind there are 72 steps and they aren't going to climb themselves.

The Store

If you have a Rocky fan in your life, the best gift is the gift of the champ. At the time of publication, there is a modular store set up at the base of the Art Museum Steps. It is where you can buy officially licensed gear; and we are talking about everything from the satin robe to boxing shorts. Fans of the movie call it The Rocky Shop, but it's official name according to the Philadelphia Visitors Center, is the Parkway Outpost. It is a great opportunity for visitors to learn more about our great city, buy their favorite Philly-centric merchandise, and passes to other Philly attractions.
