Tigirlily Gold’s ‘Blonde’ SolidifyiesTheir Country Music Identity
Tigirlily Gold released their first full record Blonde on July 26th solidifying their country music identity with song choices and beautiful harmonies.
During their whirlwind album release week, the sister duo stopped by 92.5 XTU to perform songs off the album and chat with Nicole about recent life events.
Hot off their performance and win for New Duo or Group at the Academy Of Country Music Awards in Frisco, TX, the ladies are excited to release their new project.
Kendra explained, “But honestly, we get along so well and I can’t imagine doing this with anyone else but my sister, like you, go through so many emotions in this journey and very lows to where like, do I need to give this up as a career to the highest of highs where we just won our first ACM award, which is one of the coolest experiences, you know, of our career, of being sisters. And so to just share all those experiences together really is the coolest thing.”

They sang “I Tried A Ring On” during the ACM broadcast. Krista and Kendra revealed during their visit that Jelly Roll gave them a pep talk backstage before their performance. Can you imagine the kind of motivation Jelly gave the ladies as they stepped out in front of thousands in the arena and millions on television?
The ladies paid their dues playing Nashville’s lower Broadway for 12 years, playing sets of mostly covers. Notably, they had a weekly residence at Dierks Bentley’s bar, Whiskey Row. The girls from North Dakota quickly honed their skills by playing 4 hours sets sometimes as much as three times a week.
“…What separates us from anyone else? What do we want to say? You know, obviously Tigirlily Gold with this project Blonde, we really locked in the girl group energy. So we say that this whole project is having a blonde state of mind. You don’t actually have to be blonde to be blonde, obviously, but we want everything that we write and put out to be empowering, confident, bold, also funny. Like we’re not afraid to poke fun at ourselves,” said Krista. “We think it’s so important to be conscious of what you’re saying and how you’re saying it.”
Krista said, “We chose ten songs for this record that we didn’t feel like many other artists would even touch or do or do it justice if they did it. So we are very conscious of everything in this creation of the album.”
The last track on Tigirlily Gold Blonde is a cover they would perform in their live sets. Tigirlily Gold gives a country twist to the second most song played of 2008, Leona Lewis’s ‘”Bleeding Love”. The song was originally written by Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic and Jesse McCartney. It is no surprise it was such a hit 16 years ago. Kendra and Krista called an audible during the visit and decided to play an acoustic version for us. Their interpretation is haunting and the way they harmonize gives the song a fresh makeover.

As the only sister duo in country music at the time of publication, the ladies feel a responsibility to the genre. “So we feel a responsibility to, represent a lot of women in country music,” said Krista. “We’re trying to make women proud everywhere and everyone.”
Their debut song “Shoot Tequila” earned them two CMT nominations and spread all over social media. The line “Mama didn’t raise no quitter” is one of my favorite lines of all time.
