Little League World Series

I cannot believe that we are doing it again, another Delaware Valley representative in the Little League World Series. Newtown, Pennsylvania is representing the Mid-Atlantic region.

We have been cheering this team on 92.5 XTU the entire tournament!

Little League World Series

The fans from Newtown nervously getting ready for an elimination game. Their team lost the first game of the tournament but then won two straight game, easily I might add. they will continue to work their way up the consolation ladder hoping to win it all on Sunday, August 25th. (Jeff Kurkjian)

Little League World Series Newtown Next Game

Newtown, after losing the very first game of the tournament, decided that they weren't going to go home early. On Saturday, August 17th, the beat Salem, New Hampshire (representing New England) by a score of 5-0. A big time shutout.

And then, on Sunday, August 18th, they took on Puyallup, Washington and rain kind of screwed some things up. However, they routed the Northwest team 12-2 in a game that was called to finish after only four innings due to rain.

Their next game is on Tuesday, August 20th at 3pm. They will play the loser of the Mountain (Henderson, Nevada) and West (Hawaii) they play on Monday, August 19th at 3pm EST.

Every summer, hundreds of the world's best young baseball players descend upon Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series. This year, Jeff Kurkjian took a day trip there with his father-in-law, Alex, to visit his dad, Tim Kurkjian, who was covering the tournament for ESPN.

As you know, my wife and I just welcomed a baby girl, McKinley, into the world on August 10th. While on my pseudo "paternity leave," I decided to take the two-hour drive north to Williamsport with my father-in-law to complete a bucket list item for him, going to the Little League World Series.

Slide Down The Hill In Williamsport

It was actually my first visit there, that's hard to believe because I grew up in Maryland, only three and a half hours away from Williamsport, but it was so worth it.

Pennsylvania Team Little League World Series

This year, the Mid-Atlantic team was represented by a Pennsylvania team from Media. A huge part of XTU Nation was showing up on social media and in person to support. Being so close to Williamsport definitely makes these games like home games for the kids.

Seven of the last 23 representatives for the Mid-Atlantic region for the LLWS have been from Pennsylvania. Back in 2021, Upper Providence in Oaks (Montgomery County) represented the state and the region in the tournament.

Did Pennsylvania Win In LLWS?

Unfortunately, in the double-elimination tournament, our team from Media, Pennsylvania wasn't able to pull off a win. They lost to the Southwest Region on the first day of the tournament on Wednesday, August 16th. Then got knocked out by the team from Rhode Island representing the Metro Region on Sunday, August 20th.

I was able to get a look at the atmosphere at the LLWS in Williamsport and snap some photos for you, I hope you enjoy!

The LLWS mascot, Dugout. He leads a dance off with each team before every game. It is adorable!

The Bracket

After each game, the team runs to the bracket. Why? Because they are the ones to "advance" their team to the next round!

Sign The Wall

Another cool thing about the LLWS, this autograph wall. Fans, players, families, all welcome to sign the wall to be part of the weekend. Pretty special, right?

BEEP BEEP

Getting around in this makes you the coolest kid in town for sure. It now sits in left field looking onto Lamade Field.

Speaking of the outfield, check out this view. This is Lamade Stadium, the larger of the two parks at the LLWS. This is where the final game will take place among many others

Ice Cream

Is there anything better than soft serve at a ballgame? At the LLWS, it's kind of a must. After a hotdog in the 4th inning, Jeff and his father in law got some soft serve in the seventh.

Some History

The Fans Are On Their Feet

The fans are on their feet at Volunteer Stadium. It is a the second of the two. This is predominately where the international games take place for the first couple days.
