Jelly Roll’s Touching Emmy Performance
Jelly Roll took center stage at the Emmy’s last night (9/15) with an emotional song and performance, for the “In Memorandum” segment of the show, paying tribute to those we lost this year.
Before the performance, Jelly walked the red carpet of the Emmys and told reporters that he was so honored to be a part of it.
Jelly told the crowd before performing dressed all in black, “I believe that music is therapeutic. I believe that music can heal. I also believe that storytelling is just as cathartic. I hope that this song can act as a healing moment for those mourning the storytellers we have lost this year. If you’re feeling lost or alone tonight, I want you to know that it’s OK to not always be OK.”
The lyrics to Jelly’s “I Am Not Okay” include: “I am not okay / I’m barely getting by / I’m losing track of days / And losing sleep at night / I am not okay / I’m hanging on the rails / So if I say I’m fine / Just know I learned to hide it well / I know, I can’t be the only one / Who’s holding on for dear life / But God knows, I know / When it’s all said and done / I’m not okay / But it’s all gonna be alright / It’s not okay / But we’re all gonna be alright.”
