Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood’s Duet is Coming
Cody Johnson first told us about the duet with Carrie Underwood in 2023 at CMA Fest now a year and a half later it’s finally coming out. The song is called “I’m Gonna Love You.”
Cody posted what looks like a couple of images from the video of the song on his Instagram. He wrote, “Thrilled to announce that “I’m Gonna Love You” is coming out next Friday, 9/27. Thank you @carrieunderwood for joining me on this one and making it so special. Can’t wait for y’all to hear it.”
He first told us backstage at CMA Fest in 2023, “From the moment I heard the song, and this was six years ago, I wanted to record it, and I wanted to do a duet with Carrie because I heard her voice on it.”
Johnson admitted it’s not that he is a die-hard fan of Underwood, but it just had to be Carrie’s voice on the song. He said, “I love Carrie’s music, but I didn’t have her poster on my wall. But when I heard this song, I heard her voice, and I just knew that it was gonna work out. We had never sung together, so when we got in the room and we started singing together, It was like family harmony. The only way I can describe it is the way I grew up singing with my mom. It just instantly fits, and it meshes.”

Johnson is still touring and playing shows on his headlining “Leather Tour,” where he will be playing indoor and outdoor venues.
Cody told us that while each has its own character, as long as there’s a crowd, he’ll be ready to go. He said, “I think indoor versus outdoor shows has its own special thing about them. There’s a certain element to the sound indoors, but you know I grew up playing independent music here in Texas, where every festival season you lose 10 pounds cause you sweat out so much on stage, and it’s hot, and it’s miserable, but it’s hot and miserable for those fans too, and they stand out there in it.”
He added, “I think there’s something special about standing out there and sweating your butt off and be in there at the concert all day for these festivals. I think each one of them has their own things that bands love each one of them has their own energy. I really don’t care, either way for me.”
