Carrie Underwood shared an entry from her journal when she was competing as a contestant on America Idol twenty years ago. With just a week to go before she makes her debut as an American Idol judge, Carrie posted a video on Instagram reading an entry from her journal.
She says in a video clip, "Let's take a look at my journal from when I was on American Idol." She reads: "I just have to keep in mind that it will all be worth it, and the life that I have started will be great. Most importantly, I have to remember that this has all been my choice, and it's something I've wanted since I was a little girl."
She continues to read, "I know I have some great things ahead of me. Right now, I'm just trying to live in the moment and appreciate it all. I never dreamed that all of this would happen to me."
Underwood herself seems charmed by looking back on her own thoughts from that period. She exclaimed, "I love it!"
Carrie captioned the post, "Opening up my journal from 20 years ago, I’m reminded still that @americanidol was and is always worth it. Happy to share an early look at #IdolToIcon, an exclusive digital series where I reflect on my own season while guiding our new hopefuls as a judge! #CUonIDOL"

American Idol premieres on March 9 on ABC.
Underwood is getting ready to make her debut as a judge on American Idol next week (3/9), just a day before her 42nd birthday. It's been two years since she released her latest album, Denim, and Rhinestones, and there's a good chance she's been working on new music for her next album project as she navigates becoming a weekly TV star on Idol.
In my many interviews with Carrie over the years, she often talked about the importance of her albums having a lot to offer to her huge fan base.
She told me not long ago, "I love making an album that I feel like is just full of single potential songs. I love covering as much ground as I possibly can in an album. I, as a fan of music, don’t wanna play an album from start to finish and hear the same song over and over again. I want to be able to go on a ride and explore."
