The Philly PHLASH bus will add two new stops to its route this summer, enabling tourists and locals to visit historic sites and explore Philadelphia.
The first stop will be on Independence Mall on Arch Street between Fifth and Sixth streets. Next to the Independence Visitor Center and the National Constitution Center. The PHLASH will also add a stop near the Calder Gardens. A new horticultural attraction set to open in September on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 21st and 22nd streets.
“The PHLASH is all about serving visitors,” said Maita Soukup, vice president of experience and engagement at the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation, in an interview with Philadelphia NPR affiliate WHYY. “There wasn't a stop from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the Franklin Institute. This also gives riders who want to go to the Mütter Museum or check out Rittenhouse Square. Or jump down to the Graduate Hospital area some more flexibility.”
Philly PHLASH
During the last three decades, the Philly PHLASH has transported visitors through Philadelphia. Soukup said that routes are adjusted slightly each year to reflect the “changes to the city's streetscape” and construction happening in Philadelphia, including the continuing Interstate 95 project near Penn's Landing.
Tickets are $2 for a single ride. A single-day pass is $5, while two-day passes are $9. A family day pass is $12 per day for two adults and up to four children. SEPTA Key holders, children ages 4 and younger, and seniors older than 65 can ride for free.
Tickets can be purchased by exact change only on buses. Alternatively, riders can buy tickets through the Philly PHLASH website. And in person at any Philadelphia visitor center and the Betsy Ross House.
Philly PHLASH buses operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday through Sunday. Beginning Memorial Day, the PHLASH service will run daily through Labor Day. No service will be offered on July 4.
