How fast is the internet in Philadelphia? According to telecom giant Comcast, it's "next-generation" fast. The company recently announced a significant upgrade to its internet service in Philly, raising download speeds to 2.1 Gbps and upload speeds to 300 Mbps.
This achievement puts Philly, the company's home, ahead of the rest of the nation. A Philadelphia Inquirer report notes that about half of Comcast's more than 30 million internet customers across the country had access to these speeds as of early April. Comcast said it would increase this number to 70% nationwide by the end of 2025.
Comcast is making big money on its service offerings. The company announced record revenue in the fourth quarter of 2024. It's invested nearly $20 billion over the past five years, with more than $2 billion in Pennsylvania alone over the last three years.
Comcast is also trying to sweeten its internet offering to new customers by offering regular internet speed upgrades for no extra cost. On Tuesday, April 15, Comcast rolled out a five-year price guarantee as low as $55 a month for new internet customers. Existing customers are also eligible to roll this offer into one of the company's internet service packages.
