"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" will return to FXX for its 17th season on July 9. The second and final crossover episode of ABC's “Abbott Elementary” will air along with the series' season premiere.
The crew from Paddy's Pub appeared in season four of "Abbott" in episode nine titled “Volunteers.” During that episode, the characters spent a day trying to help around the elementary school to earn credit toward their court-ordered community service requirement.
In the newest season of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," “The Gang Embraces The Corporate Era,” audiences will see how Janine (Quinta Brunson), Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph), and the remaining teachers at Abbott fit in on the other side of town. The long-running comedy will investigate how greed and the New American Dream have overtaken Paddy's Pub.
“They represent a part of South Philly, and we represent a part of West Philly that is very real, and it wasn't a long walk for these characters to interact,” Brunson told The Hollywood Reporter about developing the crossover episodes. “It just made sense immediately. And when it came to us that easy, we were like, ‘Yeah, we have to do this.' … Charlie [Day] and Rob [McElhenney] came into the room with us one day. They were wonderful, just excellent, excellent collaborators. I can't say enough kind words about them. We had a ball. We've been having a ball on set. They're just a delight to work with.”
Season 17 of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" will premiere with the first two episodes on July 9 at 9 p.m. Eastern on FXX. Episodes will stream the next day on Hulu.
