Together, we mourn the death of musical prodigy Brian Wilson. But did you know there was more to the legend than surf songs? He actually made a country album ...
My dad loved the Beach Boys. When I was still in my crib, just old enough to pull myself up on the rails, I’d wake from a nap bouncing and belting out “Help Me, Rhonda” until someone came to get me. That’s how deep music ran in our house. We were raised on harmonies, sunshine, and the sound of surfboards thanks to the Beach Boys.
We Lost a Legend in Brian Wilson
Brian Wilson, the heart and soul behind the Beach Boys, passed away. His bandmates called him a “humble musical giant." From the beginning, it was clear he was a prodigy. One who didn’t just make music, but reshaped the American sound. According to bbc.com, Al Jardine said, Brian Wilson taught the world how to smile. And he did.
But the story doesn’t end there ...
Years ago, Wilson convinced his manager, Fred Vail, to sing lead vocals on a country album. Yes. Brian Wilson, the mastermind of California pop, produced country music. Vail wasn’t a professional singer. In fact, the band used to tease him for singing along to country radio in the car.
But Brian Wilson was a genius. And who says no to a genius?
They gave it a shot. They recorded. They experimented. Then, the project was shelved… until now. Those in the know referred to the album as Cows in the Pasture, and it may finally see the light of day this year. Even more exciting? A documentary could be on the way too.
Stay tuned.
