The Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, Inc. will host the Downingtown Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m.
Participating groups in this year's parade include the Downingtown Blue and Gold Marching Band, Bishop Shanahan Marching Band, Valley Forge Highland Pipe Band, Duffy String Band, Onyx + Honey, and Galena Brass, along with floats, walking units, dance and twirling groups, and fire engines.
“Of course, no Christmas parade is complete without Santa coming to town on a magnificent float provided by Tree House World,” said Dianne Plaugher, co-chair of Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, Inc., in a statement shared with The Times of Chester County.
The parade route runs along Lancaster Avenue (Business Route 30), beginning near Gable Avenue and continuing east to Green Street. Parade organizers said that this year's route is two blocks shorter due to road detours.
Downingtown police have noted that all major roadways through Downingtown Borough will be detoured. Motorists are urged to avoid delays and use Route 30 Bypass as an alternative for eastbound and westbound traffic. The Christmas Parade should be completed by 5:30 p.m., and all roadways will be reopened shortly afterward.
