The Eagles had a difficult choice to make this past week. Should they prioritize rest or playing for the 2 seed? Nick Sirianni chose rest, and whether you agree with that or not, it resulted in them losing to the Commanders and settling into the 3-seed.

Which means that with the Rams winning their game, it will be the 49ers flying across the country to travel to Philly to face the Eagles in the Wild Card Round. They play at 4:30 pm next Sunday, Jan 11th.

The Bears losing makes the decision even more controversial now. If the Eagles won this game, they would be the 2 seed. Instead of playing the 12-5 49ers, they would be playing the beat-up Packers. If they went on to win that game, they would have been guaranteed at least 1 more home game in the Divisional Round, and another home game in the NFC Championship game vs any team besides the Seahawks.

Instead, they are the 3 seed. If they win, there is a decent chance they need to travel to Chicago in the 2nd round. The Eagles took that risk by resting the starters. Sirianni and co decided getting their players rest was more important. Time might still prove Sirianni correct.

Eagles Matchup Vs The 49ers

The 49ers have at times looked like a force to be reckoned with this season. But the Seahawks proved the 49ers are very beatable. They held the Niners to just 3 points in a game that decided the NFC West. The Eagles' defense, like the Seahawks, has proven they can face any team in any building and win games. They get to face the 49ers at home.

But leading up to that game, the conversation will certainly revolve around the Eagles' choice to rest their starters. If the starters played, they likely win. If they win, they get the 2 seed and are playing a much more favorable matchup vs the Packers.

Nick Sirianni made a choice. We don't know if it was the right choice yet. But the Eagles losing, and the Bears losing, certainly gave his detractors a ton of ammunition against him. We will see if it pays off in the long run.
