The 44th Bi-Annual New Jersey Film Festival is starting the new year with a dynamic slate of programming. Festival events will be held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Jan. 23 to Feb. 22.
Forty-six films are scheduled to have their New Jersey or Middlesex County premieres during screenings as part of the New Jersey Film Festival and the United States Super 8 Film and Video Festival.
A special in-person screening of Christine Turner's Sun Ra: Do The Impossible is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. in Voorhees Hall, highlighting the life and work of the visionary jazz musician, composer, and poet, Sun Ra.

According to New Jersey Family, in-person special guest appearances will feature the following film directors, producers, and actors:

- Trina Bardusco (A Way to Be Together)
- Louis Cacchione (Arrested at Delaney Hall)
- John Decker (Portrait of a Monastery)
- Samuel Freeman (Don't Look in the Dark)
- Theodore Kennedy (B.F. Skinner Plays Himself)
- John Pivko (creator)
The festival is hybrid, offering in-person screenings at Rutgers University and online viewing via Video on Demand for 24 hours on each show date, with a general admission or festival pass granting access to both formats where available.
The in-person screenings and the filmmaking workshops will be held in Voorhees Hall #105 at Rutgers University, 71 Hamilton St., New Brunswick, beginning at 1 p.m., 5 p.m., or 7 p.m. on their show date.
Free filmmaking workshops will be offered on Sundays, Feb. 1 and Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. in Voorhees Hall #105, covering business basics and introductory filmmaking. Registration, on a first-come, first-served basis, is required via email.
Ticket options include general admission at $15 per program, a Festival All Access Pass for $120, and in-person-only student tickets at $10 per program. Workshops are free but require advance registration.
