On this month’s Stay Well Health Chat, Nicole Michalik from 92.5 XTU and Marisa Magnatta from 93.3 WMMR sit down with Virtua Health cardiologist Dr. Rozy Dunham to talk about practical ways women can reduce their risk for cardiovascular disease. Rozy Dunham, MD, is a board-certified cardiologist caring for adults with heart conditions. A graduate of Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, she is particularly interested in caring for women with cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Dunham explains that while genetics can feel overwhelming, there are several powerful factors that are well within your control, including the food you eat, how much you move, how well you sleep, and avoiding tobacco. She also highlights why stress and lack of restful sleep can impact your heart health, and shares the importance of “knowing your numbers” like maintaining a healthy weight, monitoring blood pressure, blood sugar, and keeping cholesterol in a healthy range.

If you’ve been looking for simple, realistic steps to protect your heart, this is a must-watch conversation.

Some of the topics discussed:

  • What steps can we take at any age to improve your cardiac health?
  • Why is family history so important?
  • How does becoming pregnant impact your cardiac health?
  • Are there risk factors in pregnancy that impact overall cardiovascular health throughout your lifetime?
  • What changes women’s cardiac health after menopause?
  • What are the differences between women and men when it comes to cardiovascular health later in life?
