Airbnb is projecting a banner year for Philadelphia's economy, as the vacation rental booking site estimates 17,000 visitors will book rentals in the Greater Philadelphia region for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, creating what it believes will be $167 million in regional economic impact.
The Philadelphia Business Journal noted that, according to Airbnb's projections, those 17,000 visitors would fuel demand for approximately 126,000 room nights across six World Cup matches at Lincoln Financial Field. Direct guest spending is expected to reach approximately $52 million, with indirect and induced spending driving the total impact to approximately $167 million.

Philadelphia.TODAY notes that the estimated 17,000 visitors make up only a small portion of the estimated 149,000 tourists that Airbnb believes will travel to Philadelphia to catch FIFA World Cup action and require lodging during the World Cup.
Average per-visitor spending is forecast at an estimated $109 per night for accommodations and approximately $411 for transportation. With these figures in mind, local hosts are likely to earn approximately $1,900 per visit (about $160 per night).
Airbnb also projects the World Cup could boost long-term tourism. FIFA data have indicated about 65% of visitors may return to revisit host cities after the competitions conclude.
