Former professional wrestler and actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may be heading to the Oval Office one day.
A new poll by Piplsay shows that at least 46% of Americans would support a presidential run from Johnson. The poll from Tuesday found that 29% would support campaigns from both Johnson and Matthew McConaughey for Texas governor with another 17% supporting Johnson’s run only.
The poll also asked the participants how they would feel about certain other celebrities running for president. The results found that 27% supported Oprah Winfrey, 30% supported Angelina Jolie and 22% supported Tom Hanks. A total of 63% said that Hollywood celebrities would “make good politicians” if they had “the right team in place.”
The poll was conducted online April 2 through April 4 by 30,138.
Johnson has talked about potentially running for president for years now. In a 2017 interview on The Ellen Show he said he was “seriously” considering it.
A year later in 2018 he told Stephen Colbert in an interview on The Late Showthat he still was “absolutely” contemplating on becoming a candidate. However, he would need to “get some more experience and understand policy” before. He could see himself running for the 2024 or 2028 election.
In a USA Todayarticle from February 2021, Johnson said that his future in politics would be “up to the people.”
“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted,” Johnson told USA Today. “Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people…So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.”
