This past weekend, Jeff was in Cooperstown, New York celebrating his dad, Tim Kurkjian, who was just honored with the BBWAA Career Excellence Award for his long time work as a baseball writer. Tim has spent years in newspaper, magazine and online journalism including authoring three books over his career.
Jeff Kurkjian is the newest member of The Andie Summers Show on 92.5 XTU but he took Monday, July 25th off just to be with his family one extra day to celebrate the big weekend. If you want to see some pictures of Jeff’s family and even see a video of his dad’s speech, you can find it on 925xtu.com.
Jeff has been to National Baseball Hall of Fame more times than he can count. It was a family tradition, year after year, to go to Cooperstown and be a part of the induction weekend ceremonies. This year, David Ortiz, Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat, Minnie Minoso, Tony Oliva, Bud Fowler and Buck O’Neil were amongst the players honored on July 24th.
Before you take a little tour, let’s learn a little bit about the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
Here’s some fun ones according to BaseballHall.org…
- Fans can visit the Hall of Fame Library, which houses in excess of three million documents, including a file on every player to appear in a major league game, 250,000 photographs and 14,000 hours of recorded film, video and sound
- You will see pictures of the Hall of Fame Gallery which serves as the centerpiece of the hall, where the plaques of all 333+ Hall of Fame members line the oak walls. Only 235 former major leaguers – one percent of those to have played baseball in the major leagues – have earned a spot in the Hall of Fame
- The A. Bartlett Giamatti Research Center facilitates approximately 60,000 research inquiries from around the world each year
Time for some photos Jeff took from inside the hall this weekend!
