here are movies that make you want to drive really fast.

Driving movies are the best.  Especially ones that involve car chases and street racing.  When Fast and the Furious came out in 2001, my buddies and I all became hooked on street racing and cars.  Suped-up Japanese cars were always our favorite. Our hometown was full of guys who loved their American muscle cars like Chevy Camaros, Dodge Chargers, Ford Mustangs, etc… My group of guys was more into the Toyota Supra’s, Mazda RX-7’s, Nissan SkyLine GTR’s, and Mitsubishi Eclipse’s.

Basically, every car that was featured in The Fast and the Furious besides Dom Torreto’s muscle car, we wanted.

The movie came out when I was 15 years old so I had 2 years of waiting and waiting and waiting until I got my license. Now, I worked as a busboy since I was 13 years old so I had some decent money in the bank. One of my neighbors had this really sports car and since I was 8 years old, I always wanted this car.  It was my dream car! That car was the Mitsubishi 3000 GT. I turned 17 and had enough money to buy my dream car. I was driving around in a bright red 1993 Mitsubishi 3000 GT and I felt like a king. I used to race this car on the highway all the time and when there were any local street races, I would race my car in those. Fast forward 2 years, this car was a complete money pit. I was so caught up in having this car that I never did any background checks on the car. The car was on a tow truck at least 20 times in 2 years.

It’s been 20 years since I first had that car and even though it was a piece of junk, I miss it every day. I miss the looks that people gave me when I drove by. I have been happily married for 4 years now but I do miss the attention that girls gave me because they wanted to ride in that car. Well, maybe I was dreaming that last part but still, it was a good time.

Since The Fast and the Furious came out, I have been a car junkie and whenever a new driving movie comes out, I must see it.

Here is a list of some of my favorite movies that make you want to drive fast!

  • The Fast & The Furious (2001)

This is the movie that started it all.  Now there’s like 100 of them but the first one put street racing on the map for me and all of my friends.

  • 2 Fast 2 Furious

I won’t keep going on and on with all of The Fast and Furious franchise. I just had to put the first 2 movies in the franchise down because they consistently had the cars that I was into.  After these 2 movies, they went in a different direction with the franchise.

  • Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

This one is a little different.  This is a hilarious comedy movie that spoofs Nascar.  Will Ferrell crushes his role as Ricky Bobby!

  • Ford vs. Ferrari

Epic!  Matt Damon plays Carol Shelby, the creator of the Shelby Mustang and Christian Bale plays Ford driver Ken Miles. This is based on the true story of Ford’s epic win against Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.

  • Gone In 60 Seconds

This movie still gets me excited every time it comes on. Nicholas Cage stars as Memphis Reigns(what a cool name), a retired car thief who has to get back into the car-jacking game to save his brother’s life.  It stars Nick Cage, Angelina Jolie, Giovanna Ribisi, Will Patton, Scott Caan, Timothy Olyphant,  and James Duval.

  • Need For Speed

I was unsure about this movie when I first heard about it.I was a huge fan of the Need For Speed Playstation games and this movie is absolutely nothing like it. Aaron Paul crushes his role and also Rami Malek co-stars.

  • Days Of Thunder

Tom Cruise. The early 90’s. Nascar. Enemies turned friends = A classic driving movie!

  • Drive

Ryan Gosling plays a stuntman by day and a getaway driver by night. One word to describe this movie: Bad@$$! A must-see!

  • The Italian Job

This is not necessarily a movie about driving but they do quite a bit of driving. The way they drive the mini-coopers in the getaway scene was just sick!

  • Transporter 2

Jason Statham returns as a driver who can just about beat anyone up. The fight scenes are epic and the driving scenes are that much better. This is one of those sequels that is better than the original movies.
