Let’s take a look at the Philadelphia Eagles off season moves thus far.
Is anyone over the Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs yet? I don’t blame anyone if they aren’t. It was an extremely tough loss to swallow especially having a 10 point lead at halftime and being the overall better team. When a team goes to the Super Bowl, it is extremely tough to get back to the big game again the next year. Other teams will look to hire the coordinators (That is exactly what happened to the Birds. Both the OC and DC left for head coaching jobs). You will have free agents who performed very well and will want a big payday and you won’t be able to afford everyone. You most likely picked up a couple free agents in the offseason or during the season and signed them to 1 year deals and will have to let them walk as well. When you have a young quarterback who is still on their rookie deal and he had season like Jalen Hurts had, you will have to sign that player to a MASSIVE contract. You also have older free agents on the team that you will have to let walk because their best days are behind them.
It’s tough to stay at the top of the mountain… That is why most teams don’t stay up there too long. Here are the biggest things that happened so far this off-season.
Jason Kelce Is Returning For 13th Season
After the Super Bowl, Jason Kelce said it would take a few weeks for him to ponder a decision whether to come back and play a 13th season. Well, Monday, March 13th he took to his Twitter and announced he would be back!!!
I have put much thought into whether it makes sense to play another season. After talking it over with my wife and many other friends and family, I have decided to return for another year. Thank you to all my supporters and detractors for fueling me, I ain’t fucking done yet!
— Jason Kelce (@JasonKelce) March 13, 2023Javon Hargrave Signs With 49ers
This one will hurt a little bit but when you see the contract he was given, I think we can say good for him. Javon Hargrave had a monster season with the Birds and got PAID for it. We knew we would lose some key players and this is probably the biggest!
Former Eagles’ DT Javon Hargrave has reached agreement on a four-year, $84 million deal that includes $40m guaranteed at signing with the SF 49ers, per sources. Deal negotiated and confirmed by Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. pic.twitter.com/9ez66A8ymq
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 13, 2023Jalen Hurts
We know he is going to make MEGA bucks. We don’t have any news on this yet but we know he will be making upwards of $40-$50 million a year. That’s what the going rate is for an elite quarterback unless you’re Daniel Jones and make that money and not elite.
Linebacker T.J. Edwards Signs With Chicago Bears
Another defensive starter is leaving the nest. T.J. Edwards has signed with the Chicago Bears on a fairly cheap deal. The Eagles do not value the linebacker position so this was an obvious move letting him walk.
Eagles’ free-agent LB T.J. Edwards plans to sign with the Chicago Bears, per sources.

Another starting defensive player is on his way out of town. Kyzir White is following his defensive coordinator now head coach to Arizona.

— PFF (@PFF) March 14, 2023Eagles Sign Running Back Rashaad Penny
Does this mean the end for Miles Sanders? Yes, it does! The Birds pick up veteran running back Rasaad Penny who is a very good back that can still produce and does not break the bank. I still think they need another bruiser type back.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 14, 2023Safety Marcus Epps Signs with Las Vegas Raiders
The Birds lose a starting safety! Marcus Epps has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders on a 2 year – $12 million deal. This isn’t necessarily a huge loss but that is a fairly cheap contract. Let’s hope the Eagles address this position in Free Agency, a trade, or the draft because Reid Blankenship is not the guy.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 13, 2023Pro Bowl Corner Darius Slay Staying With Eagles
One of the best players the Eagles have. He started the season on fire and then cooled off. Lots of news came out about Slay this off-season. He was allowed to seek a trade. Not trade partners came forward so the Eagles released him and then just a few hours later, he is back with the Eagles. What a whirlwind for Big Play Slay!
Back like I never left!!! Run it back 🦅
— Darius Slay (@bigplay24slay) March 16, 2023Running Back/Giant Killer Boston Scott Staying With Birds
Who doesn’t love Boston Scott? He scores just about every time he plays the New York Giants. The Birds sign him to a 1 year – $2 million deal. I like this signing.
The #Eagles aren’t done in the backfield: The team agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth about $2 million with RB Boston Scott, per source.

Fans’ favorite “Giant Killer” is back for a sixth season in Philadelphia. pic.twitter.com/vcU7RyP0QBJames Bradberry Re-signs For 3 Years With Eagles
What an awesome pickup last off-season. James Bradberry signed with the Eagles last season on a 1 year prove-it-deal. He definitely proved it earning 2nd Team All-Pro honors. The 29 year old corner will definitely be a nice piece for the Birds for the next 3 years.
All-Pro CB James Bradberry is returning to the Eagles on three-year deal worth $38 million, including $20 million fully guaranteed and another $6 million in incentives, per sources. Total package is $44 million. pic.twitter.com/SMPhDKlPub
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 14, 2023Andre Dillard Signs With Titans
This guy just never panned out after drafting him so high. This isn’t a huge loss but he added depth to the O-line.
Former #Eagles OT Andre Dillard is expected to sign with the #Titans, per me and @MikeGarafolo. The former first-rounder has a new home.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 13, 2023CJ Gardner Johnson Is Signing A 1 Year Deal With Detroit
What a huge pickup last year! The guy was amazing at the safety position. Will he stay or will he go? Well, we just learned on Sunday, March 19th that he will be leaving. He signed a 1 year – $8 million deal. WHATTTTT???!?! The Birds had to offer a bigger contract than that.
Former Eagles’ safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson reached agreement tonight with the Detroit Lions, per source.

The top remaining defensive free agent is off the board. pic.twitter.com/Wl0BoQKrmxBrandon Graham Is Back!
The longest tenured Eagle is back! He re-signed with the team for 1 year – $6 million. It’s good to have BG back!
Starting Tailback Miles Sanders signs with Carolina
Hate to see him go after his 1st 1,000 yard rushing season with the Birds but with the signing of Penny… Miles was going to sign elsewhere. That elsewhere is the Carolina Panthers.

— NFL (@NFL) March 15, 2023Fletcher Cox Signs With Eagles
6 time Pro Bowler and team captain Fletcher Cox is back with the Birds on a 1 year – $10 million deal. It’s good to see both Fletch and BG back in midnight green!

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 15, 2023Marcus Mariota Signs With Eagles
8 Years after Chip Kelly almost mortgaged the entire team… Marcus Mariota is an Eagle. He signs a 1 year – $5 million deal to backup Jalen Hurts.

The former Cleveland Brown corner signed a 1 year deal with the Eagles!

— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) March 17, 2023Guard Isaac Seumalo Signs With Pittsburgh For 3 Years
Hate to see Isaac go. The Birds had one of/if not the best O-lines in the game and they have been for a very long time. Isaac Seumalo was a big part of the line. He signs with the Steelers for 3 years – $24 million.
First, I would like to thank the city of brotherly love for taking me in 2016 so many memories. Again Thank you to the O-line of the Philadelphia Eagles. Pittsburgh I’m for what is next. Saw how many of the Pittsburgh fans followed me and that let me know I’m in good hands! 🙌

— NFL (@NFL) March 16, 2023Wide Receiver Zac Pascal Signs With Cardinals
This is not a huge loss but still a loss. He was pretty good on special teams, he had pretty good hands, and he was a really tough player. He follows former Eagles DC to Arizona.

— NFL (@NFL) March 20, 2023OT Brett Toth Re-signs With Birds
This is a depth move. He is just a backup but it’s good to have experience and depth on the O-line.
