It was the Clearwater Threshers against the Tampa Tarpons in this battle of minor league clubs. The Phillies Yankees fight between this two Single-A affiliate teams got out of hand very fast.
We had to talk about it on The Andie Summers Show because that’s how crazy it got. And if you want to see the biggest fights baseball has ever seen, I put together a list below so you can reminisce.
In the minors, it’s a different environment out there. A lot more laid back. However, the tension of winning isn’t lost on these players whatsoever. They all REALLY want to win, there is not doubt about that.
This Was A Phillies Minor League Team
For those that don’t know, every Major League Baseball team has multiple Minor League teams that they have under their belts to develop young talent. There are commonly three levels, Triple-A, Double-A and Single-A.
For example, your Philadelphia Phillies have four teams…
- Single A – Clearwater Threshers
- High A – Jersey Shore BlueClaws
- Double A – Reading Fightin Phils
- Triple A – Lehigh Valley IronPigs
So Who Was The Fight Between?
Let’s start with your very own Clearwater Threshers, the Single-A team for the Philadelphia Phillies. They both play in the Florida State League. In fact, the Threshers stadium, BayCare Ballpark, is where the Phillies play all of their Spring Training games.

They were facing off against the Single-A team for the New York Yankees, the Tampa Tarpons. The Tarpons play at George M. Steinbrenner Field in, you guessed it, Tampa, Florida.
It’s time for Tampa to meet the @Yankees of tomorrow… It’s Showtime!

Here’s what the video’s description had to say when it comes to setting the scene!
Tampa pitchers were a little wild in this noon start, and after Tampa’s Alex Bustamante plunked Clearwater’s Erick Brito, the Clearwater manager Marty Malloy didn’t like the HBP and he had some words for the Tarpons dugout.
