Restaurant Owners Drive Six Hours To Make Terminally Ill Customer’s Favorite Dish
The owners of the Baltimore restaurant Ekiben are being hailed as heroes for driving six hours to make fresh food for a terminally ill patient.
A customer in Fells Point contacted the restaurant after his mother-in-law’s health started declining. She was sadly diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and whenever visiting Baltimore, she had to have a certain dish at Ekiben.
“My mother-in-law lives in Vermont and would visit my wife and her sister throughout the years,” the customer said in the Canton Neighbors group Facebook page. “Whenever she was in town, Ekiben’s tempura broccoli was something she always needed to have. She always joked that when she’s on her death bed that if there’s anything in the world, she wants tempura broccoli from Ekiben.”
The family planned to go to Vermont soon to potentially say their last goodbyes.
The customer went on to write, “The drive to Vermont is six hours and tempura broccoli obviously will not taste the same after the long ride. I reached out to Ekiben’s owners to see if there was a way for us to either get the recipe or some of the ingredients to bring up and cook it for her.”
Not only did the restaurant owners Steve Chu and Ephrem reply back, they also offered to meet the family in Vermont to make her favorite dish. They followed up on their promise and drove six hours to make the meal just as the woman liked it.
Her daughter told GoodNewsCorrespondent that the owners did not accept any money for gas, their stay or the food.
“The overwhelming generosity and gigantic hearts of these young men will make me warm and happy forever,” she lovingly shared.
