Long Island Boy Makes ‘Hug Machine’ for Kindergarten Teacher Battling Cancer
A Long Island boy created a safe way to hug his cherished teacher while she battles cancer during the pandemic.
Avery, a five-year-old kindergarten student and his parents came up with a homemade “hug machine”. The creation is made of a shower curtain, clothing rack, and garbage bags. People can stick their arms through holes covered in the bags and hug each other with a protective barrier between them.
“It was just the sweetest thing,” Riverhead School District teacher Keri Lynn Stromski told WCBS 880. “Hugs are healing.”
Stromski is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for Stage 4 breast cancer and has really missed physically being at school with her students.
Avery and his mother, Cathie, decided to come up with the “hug machine” so that Stromski can still hug her students while staying safe during the pandemic.
“Now she could hug everyone in the whole wide world!” Avery said.
Stromski hopes to be able to hug all of her students and their families in the near future. “I just love all of them so much,” gushed Stromski.
