Rodgers, the new Jets quarterback, is reportedly out for the season. The news comes after a Tuesday (Sept. 12) MRI confirmed that Rodgers has sustained a torn Achilles, via ESPN's Adam Schefter. This happened during the New York Jets' opening game, which was against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. What's more, that means that, yes, Rodgers is out for the season.
"An MRI confirmed today that Aaron Rodgers officially tore his Achilles on the fourth play of his Jets’ career, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted. "That means that Rodgers is out for the season. Rodgers’ season now, officially, is over. There already are questions about whether his Hall-of-Fame career is, too."
The Jets took to social media to share the news, too. "Not the way any of us wanted it to go, but we know the commitment you've made to this team will continue to impact us moving forward. Get well soon, @AaronRodgers12," they tweeted.
Rodgers was on the field for just four plays in Monday night's game at MetLife Stadium. Early in the game, Rodgers was sacked by Bills defensive end Leonard Floyd, resulting in the injury.
Jets players and coaches have come to Rodgers' side to be supportive. "It's bad that he went down so early, the people didn't get to see what we've been working on," running back Dalvin Cook added via Yahoo! Sports. "The league is better when Aaron Rodgers is on the field."
"We still have a hell of a group of guys," Jets coach Robert Saleh told ESPN's Lisa Salters at the game. "Obviously Aaron is a big part of that, but we still have an unbelievable defense, we've got a lot of great guys on offense and we'll get this thing done."
