Kids Collect Allowance To Buy Special Glasses for Color Blind Classmate
Have you ever met someone who is color blind? I’m fascinated by it. What do you see? How do you know it’s different from what I see?
There is a student at an elementary school in Texas who is color blind. His name is Jaron – and Jaron has some really good friends. When his fifth-grade classmates realized he couldn’t see colors as they could, they came up with the idea of collecting their allowance money to buy Jaron special glasses so he could see colors.
How did his parents know he is color blind?
According to 8ABC, Jaron was riding in the car with his mom when he said, “Mommy look a the beautiful green sunrise.” That is when she realized there was a problem. Now Jaron is 10 years old and in his fifth-grade classroom, the topic of favorite colors came up. Jaron shared with his teacher and classmates that he doesn’t see colors like they do. Purples and blues are shades of gray for Jaron. That rocked their world.
It took the kids weeks, months even, but they did it. The kids raised enough money to buy Jaron glasses to help him see colors as they do. They called Jaron’s parents so they could be there to see Jaron see colors for the first time. Tim and Lindsay said: “Witnessing the outpouring of compassion towards Jaron and unharnessed joy in the faces of so many children chanting his name, was a moment I will never forget,” Lindsay recalls.
But it’s not over yet …
Jaron will have to relearn the names of colors and shades, but a couple of his classmates have already stepped forward volunteering to help by coaching him and making flashcards.
For Jaron, the gift is more than just a way for him to be able to see the world more vividly, it’s confirmation that his peers care about him. “I’m just really excited because I know that my friends are really true friends for doing this for me,” he says, “I can’t believe this is happening!”
