The Oscars 2025 is one of the major awards ceremonies celebrating the brilliance of film. However, it’s also a venue of occasional fashion missteps. For every jaw-dropping gown that steals the show, there’s always a few looks that make us raise our eyebrows. While we’re all for pushing boundaries and trying some risky choices, some of these ensembles felt more “forced” or “trying hard” to look different and unique.

Some were too bold, others just plain questionable. So, let’s take a look at these less-than-stellar fashion choices from the night that reminds us that even at the Oscars, not every ensemble is a winner.

Zoe Saldaña

Zoe Saldaña’s outfit at the Oscars 2025 was a major departure from her usual glamorous red carpet looks. The dress overwhelmed her figure, making her appear frumpy, and the mix of fabrics along with sheer elbow-length gloves felt a bit too chaotic. Unfortunately, this wasn’t one of her best style moments.

Cynthia Erivo may have been channeling her ‘Wicked’ character, Elphaba, with her Oscars 2025 look, but the result was a bit over the top. The oversized bow detailing stole the spotlight in all the wrong ways. Sadly, she looked more like a walking gift than a fashion icon. The dress seemed uncomfortable, and we couldn't help but wonder how she managed to sit or even go for a bathroom break with that ballooned skirt.

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg’s dress gave off similar vibes to Cynthia Erivo's, especially with its dramatic shoulder detailing. Unfortunately, the color and material of Goldberg’s gown didn't quite hit the red-carpet mark, reminding us more of a futuristic costume from a space-themed movie. On the plus side, we do love that it had pockets!

Scarlett Johansson

Another miss on the red carpet was Scarlett Johansson’s velour dress paired with matching opera gloves. The gown didn’t do her justice and seemed out of place on a night where celebrities dress up in their best ensemble. The dress hid her figure and made her look sloppy, a word not usually associated with her.

Rita Wilson

Rita Wilson looked a bit underdressed in her pink ruffled dress, which seemed more suited for a beach wedding or casual event than the glamorous Oscars. The lightweight material and flowy cut gave off a laid-back vibe that felt out of place on the red carpet.

Penélope Cruz

Penélope Cruz’s dress unfortunately gave off some unexpected vibes—like toilet paper hanging from a tree during Halloween or a mummy’s wrapping. The neck detailing that flowed back didn’t do the dress any favors, and the front embellishments only added to the confusion, failing to elevate its appeal.

Fernanda Torres

Similar to Zoe Saldaña, Best Actress nominee Fernanda Torres’ dress was overwhelmed by an excessive mix of fabrics. With feather detailing just below the waist paired with a flowy material, the look felt a bit too chaotic and mismatched.

Storm Reid

Storm Reid reminded us of a beloved fairytale character, Red Riding Hood. The ‘Euphoria’ actress’ choice of Oscars outfit with a ruffled cape overwhelms her tiny frame. The gold chain neck detailing and belt also looked mismatched.

Charlotte Lawrence

There’s a lot going on with Charlotte Lawrence’s gown we don’t know what to focus our attention on. The dress went overboard with the ruffles, sequins, and butterfly detailing and it felt a bit too much. We’re also up for quirky accessories, but we just can’t figure out the cat figurine she was holding. Does it double as a purse?
