Top Gun: Maverick is wayyyy up there as one of the best movies ever.  It's definitely on the list of one of the best sequels ever.

They stayed true to the original film with the music, the characters, and the overall nostalgia.  It was top notch.  Top Gun: Maverick is now the highest grossing sequel of all time and it is 5th in all-time grossing films.

I would suggest that you go see the movie but definitely watch the first one prior!

Let's take a look at some of my favorite movie sequels in no particular order.

The Dark Knight

Christopher Nolan took over the Batman franchise in 2005 with Batman Begins and made the franchise a lot darker.  Then, in 2008 "The Dark Knight" came out and the rest is history!

The Godfather Part 2

This could be not only the greatest sequel of all time but it's in the discussion of greatest movie of all time.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

I'm not a big Star Wars fan but this movie was highly entertaining!

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

I think sequel is one of the sequels that is better than the original.

Aliens

2 words... James Cameron!

Rocky II

Rocky gets to avenge his loss to Apollo Creed in this classic!

Bad Boys 2

I think Bad Boys 2 was better than Bad Boys... And it's definitely funnier!

Back To The Future Part II

There are no bad Back To The Future movies.  This sequel lived up to the original.

Batman Returns

Michelle Pfeiffer steals this movie.  Danny Devito crushes as The Penguin, Christopher Walken was great as Max, and of course Michael Keaton returns as Bruce Wayne.

The Bourne Supremacy

Another series where none of the movies are bad.  Matt Damon is such a beast in these movies!

Superman II

When you think of Superman, you should think of Christopher Reeve.  No diss at Henry Cavill but c'mon it's Christopher Reeve.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Who doesn't love this sequel?

The Color of Money

Paul Newman.  That should do it.  He reprises his role as Eddie Felson from The Hustler and joins forces with a young Tom Cruise in this awesome sequel.

Toy Story 2

It's hard to live up to a classic... Toy Story 2 did just that!

Shrek 2

Another movie that had to live up to the hype of the first and it did it!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secret of the Ooze

This is my favorite Ninja Turtles movie ever.  I mean Vanilla Ice makes a cameo in it.  Go Ninja Go!

U.S. Marshalls

This is definitely not better than The Fugitive but still highly entertaining!

Creed 2

This is another one where it's not better than the original (Creed, not Rocky) but still a good movie.

Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit

Super cheesy but still so good.  Had some up and coming stars in this movie... Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lauryn Hill.

Ocean's 12

Tough to live up to Ocean's 11.  This was a good movie in my opinion but not great.  Still enjoyable!

The Best Man Holiday

Absolutely love this cast and how close knit they are.  The follow up to The Best Man is sooooo great!

Boondock Saints 2: All Saint's Day

The first one is a cult classic.  This one was not as good actually it wasn't that close.  I loved Connor & Murph so much that this had to make the list.

2 Fast 2 Furious

Super cheesy but still loved it.  Tyrese and Ludacris join the cast and they are perfect fits!

Addams Family Values

Sooooo good!

American Pie 2

I've never laughed so hard in a movie theater in my entire life.  This movie came out at the perfect time because I was just about to head to college.

22 Jump Street

One word... Hilarious!

Austin Powers 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me

The sequel is better than the original by far.  The 3rd one was not very good in my opinion.

Beverly Hills Cop II

Axel Foley is back and he's better than ever!

Father of the Bride part II

A perfect follow-up to such a great movie!

Look Who's Talking Too

These movies are super cheesy but I still loved them when I was a kid.  Travolta and Kirstie Alley are great and you gotta love the voices of Bruce Willis and Roseanne.

Three Men & A Little Lady

This movie was adorable and funny.

The Karate Kid Part II

Hard to live up to a classic.  This movie did just that!

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls

Not as good as the first but still fantastic!

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Not as good as the first but when I was kid, I loved it just as much!

The Hangover Part II

Laugh out loud funny.  Wayyyy over the top but still good.

Major League II

I liked this movie better than the first which my friends say is blasphemous.

Ted 2

How can you get more raunchy than Ted... You make Ted 2.
