George Strait Sings of a Policeman in ‘The Weight Of The Badge’
George Strait’s upcoming Honky Tonk Time Machine will be out on March 29 and one of the album cuts is getting a lot of attention.
Rolling Stone Country reports that the song “The Weight of the Badge” talks of one man’s dedication to police work. It was written by Strait with his son Bubba and Dean Dillon. The song tells the story about police work through the eyes of one man. The lyrics say in part, “He’s seen it all, in his 15 years, Watching our backs, facing our fears.”
The song doesn’t really convey any kind of stance or message: it’s one story of a man behind his badge and dealing with the authority that he has.
Strait has already released two singles from his Honky Tonk Time Machine album including “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar” and “God and Country Music.”
The Country Music Hall of Famer is also set to be a performer at the upcoming 54th Academy of Country Music Awards playing out in Las Vegas live on CBS on Sunday, April 7.
