Charlie Daniels will be honored by the state of Tennessee with flags at half mast on Friday.

Fox 17 reports that Governor Bill Lee announced the flags would be at half mast from sunrise to sunset on July 10, the same day a funeral service for Daniels will be held in Murfreesboro.

Daniels, a member of the Grand Ole Opry and a Country Music Hall of Famer, was 83 when he died Monday after he suffered a stroke.

His body was escorted by Mount Juliet Police officers to Sellars Funeral Home along Mt. Juliet Rd. Monday afternoon. Fans lined the streets and paid their respects.

Middle Tennessee State University President Sidney A. McPhee said, "Charlie’s love of life and country was radiant and inspiring. And we at MTSU shall work every day to sustain and extend his legacy through the good works of the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center. Charlie will live on, not only through his music but also through the lives lifted through his generosity."

Daniels has raised helped raise millions for veterans through his own efforts and partnerships over the years. He also established a Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center at Middle Tennessee State University.

Dolly Parton said of Charlie when she posted to her socials Monday (7/6), "Well, the devil went down to Georgia, but Charlie went straight to heaven. My heart, like many millions of others, is broken today to find out that we've lost our dear friend Charlie Daniels."
