Brad Paisley Performed Surgery on His Son Jasper’s Fish
Brad Paisley is adding “fish surgeon” to his already very long resume.
He has been spending a lot of time at home and recently noticed his son Jasper’s pufferfish was suffering.
“My son had four pufferfish and was down to two- and this one was losing weight,” he shared on the cover story of the recent PEOPLE issue.
The weight loss was a result of the pufferfish’s teeth growing too long and preventing it from eating.
“Brad was looking up YouTube videos to find out what to do,” said Brad’s wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley. After a lot of research, he added drops of clove oil to the water (to put the fish to sleep) and began working on the it’s teeth.
“I’ve never seen him nervous before, but his hand was shaking,” the actress said. Brad added, “I have a friend who’s a brain surgeon, and I called him going, ‘Is it normal for your hand to do this?'”
With a lot of butterflies in his stomach, he continued on with the surgery. “You put him in the bucket, and he started to drift and go sideways, so I grabbed him in the net and held him,” he explained. “They’ve got like a beak, and I clipped it and thought I killed him — but he made it!” It was one an unusual moment but said, “These are the things in a pandemic you do yourself.”
Kimberly said it was perfectly in character for her husband to perform the surgery, “He cares about everything, great and small.”
Brad and Kimberly share two sons, 11 year-old Jasper and 14-year-old Huck as well as a growing number of pets. “We have two dogs, snakes, a bearded dragon,” Kimberly listed off. They even have a nest full of goose eggs. She continued to say, “He goes to great lengths to protect them.”
“Brad ran out at two in the morning to see if the goose eggs were OK.” Kimberly said referring to horrendous rain spells on their land. Unfortunately, they weren’t, “but it’s just so sweet how much you care,” she told him.
