Elle King just released her debut country album Come Get Your Wife, last month (1/27), and she sat down with People magazine to talk about how happy her life is living in Nashville with her partner and toddler Lucky.
"I'm a mother. That's all I ever wanted to be," she told the publication. She also touched on the heartbreak of suffering a miscarriage. "That's the hardest thing I've ever gone through, but I'm stronger from it. I wasn't supposed to have children with anyone other than Daniel. I look at him like, 'Thank God, you did it; you had a baby with a good guy.'"
Elle met Daniel Tooker, who is a tattoo artist, at his Boston tattoo shop. She says, "There was this electric thing that I've never felt before. We hung out, laughed, then he tattooed me. I posted a picture and said, 'Getting tattooed by my next ex-husband.' We've been in love ever since."
Even though she just recently moved to Nashville, she is already a part of the community. King is friends with Miranda Lambert, who told People, "I love that she is comfortable in her skin and in her art. She is so honest about who she is. She just gives it all she has every time, no matter what." Miranda added, "Because she is honest, and that's what country music is. Stories about the truth, good, bad, and ugly — and Elle tells those stories in such a beautiful way ... I love her to death."
During the summer, King said at the number one party in Nashville for the song ("Drunk and I Don't Wanna Go Home"), "Sometimes things have a journey of their own. And I never knew that what it was waiting for was Miranda Lambert. And I'm so grateful, and I'm so honored. Thank you so much for singing on this song. It's crazy. And it's like it's a light, fun song."
She added, "But for everything that we have been through as a planet, as a galaxy in the last couple of years, what we need is a frickin anthem about not wanting to be stuck inside. And the fact that we get to be on stage and sing this song and celebrate it with everybody is a beautiful moment because we all get to be together again, and then it's so special."
Elle King, who came to country music from the world of pop music, will be releasing her first full country album tomorrow (1/27) called Come Get Your Wife. She celebrated the new work with a listening party in Nashville on Tuesday (1/24), playing songs for friends in the industry, including Dierks Bentley, who came to celebrate and sing a duet with King on stage.
The album title reflects something a guy yelled out over her at a bar, and she never forgot it. Elle told us, "Even the album title, it comes from something some a--hole said to my partner one night. Something thrown off in a bar, intended to put me in my place… and he probably didn't think twice about it. But I did."
The album has twelve tracks on it, including her chart-topper with Miranda Lambert, "Drunk (And I Don't Want To Go Home)," and a new duet with Dierks Bentley called "Worth A Shot." King says of the new work, "Releasing my debut country album is packed full of emotions. Mostly excitement and full of a lot of gratitude because I really am just so blown away by country music fans and how they've, you know, accepted me and still let me continue to just be wild and rowdy and be myself. And it's just a blessing." She added, "I have poured my heart and a lot of tequila into this record. So I really hope that people like it because I'm really proud of it, and I can't wait to sing all these songs live, and I hope you guys want to sing them with me too."
