(Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)What a time in the ocean! Especially the Atlantic Ocean. Sharks seem to be making it quite the place to be this summer. I'd like to use a joke here about there must be "something in the water" but that seems too cheesy. Obviously, everything that happened with the Titanic vessel over the last few years, then back in May, Maggie Drodz-Dowski, was surfing off Stone Harbor when she got several cuts on her foot, which officials said were consistent with a shark bite. "It didn't hurt, but I felt pressure and all the teeth around the bottom of my foot. Like, my whole foot was in its mouth," she said. "I heard her scream, and she was like under the water. And then, I thought she was drowning, and then she came back up, saying she got bit or something bit her," her friend, Sarah O'Donnell, said. There were no lifeguards on duty, but Drodz-Dowski was able to get back to shore, where her friend's mom called 911.
Let's not forget how a shark almost jumped onto a fishing boat with a father/daughter a few weeks back! Then a 12 year from Philadelphia got bit in Florida. Magnolia Woodhead was swimming in Cocoa Beach when a shark latched onto her leg earlier this week. She says she was bit three times, leading to 50 stitches.
"It was just like so fast and aggressive it bit me three times in a row," said Woodhead of Philadelphia. "And then I just like my first instinct was to push it off because it hurts so bad. I was just like, get away from me."
I love the ocean and enjoy it so much, but I've always been of the thought, have fun, swim, boat, etc, but let's remember it is the shark's house. Can't get that upset they have unannounced visitors.
Officials Say Teen Bitten By Shark At Jersey Shore (PICS)
Woah! There has been a lot going on at the Jersey Shore over the past few months. Now the news that officials say a teen was bitten by a shark at the Jersey Shore sure does add to it. There has been numerous dead whales to wash up along different beaches, there has been numerous dead dolphins that washed up along the shoreline, various beach towns have implemented different rules and bans for this upcoming season based off the havoc that happened over the last few summers. Wildwood just announced they banned alcohol on the beach and the boardwalk. Sea Isle City banned backpacks and adopted a curfew. Ocean City adopted a "breach of peace" ordinance.
Needless to say the news that a teenager was bitten by a shark at the Jersey Shore is a shock. Especially leading up to Memorial Day Weekend! I actually stopped at the beach in Stone Harbor after my Acme appearance in Cape May Courthouse and there was so many people in the water. My thought has always been enjoy the beach, but just remember it's the shark's house.
Whales Washing Ashore Has Been Alarming
There has been so many whales, it seemed to happen with the colder temp outside, which is interesting because whales tend to favor the colder water.
Last Week Dolphins Washed Ashore
This was just last week!
In Happier News, Lots of Humpback Whales Were Spotted at the Shore
I met a couple at my Acme appearance who was going on a whale watcher cruise this weekend. Hopefully they got to see the amazing animals.
A Teenager Was Surfing Was The Shark Bit Her
Surfers are always risk takers, but man, so scary.
