Popular Tourist Attraction Battleship New Jersey To Be Moved On Land
We all need a refresh every once in a while. The popular tourist attraction Battleship New Jersey is to be moved on land for the first time in over 3 decades. Turns out the ship needs a little upkeep. We can appreciate that. It’s like how we need a haircut every few months. If you remember we have been fortunate to do some really cool events on the Battleship New Jersey. So hopefully once it’s all cleaned up, we can have a big hoopla. I actually have never been, but everyone said it’s such a cool experience, especially because you can even spend the night there as well. It’s a very popular attraction for families, school groups, and youth organizations. I keep thinking about the Abbott Elementary episode where they spend the night at The Franklin Institute and Mrs Howards (Sheryl Lee Ralph’s character) scares all the kids with her C-PAC machine for her sleep apnea. Ha! With that said, if you haven’t started watching Abbott Elementary yet, do it asap.
Okay, back to The Battleship New Jersey.
“Safeguarding irreplaceable historic objects and places, like the Battleship New Jersey, ensures they bridge the past with the present, inspiring future generations,” said Sara Cureton, director of the New Jersey Historical Commission. “Dry docking the ship after 32 years honors its legacy, preserving its grandeur for the future.”
The ship will be cleaned, the hull will be repainted and corrosion will be repaired, and will be towed from Camden to Philadelphia to a dry dock for 60 to 100 days.
Its dry dock site, the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard’s Dry Dock Number 3, is significant because it is where the ship was originally built from 1940-1943 for World War II.
The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial is located at 62 Battleship Place, Camden, New Jersey. This museum ship preserves and displays USS New Jersey, the most decorated battleship to have served in the U.S. Navy and one of the largest ever built.

USA Today’s 2023 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Beach in the U.S. was just released. It seems like the same beaches are always in the top 10 or top 3.
A lot of people in the Philadelphia area vacation at the Jersey Shore or the Delaware Beaches.

Whether you’re seeking thrilling amusement park rides, lively nightlife, or peaceful seaside serenity, the New Jersey Shore has it all.
The region’s beaches are the main attraction, with miles of pristine sandy shores that beckon sun-seekers, swimmers, and surfers. From the expansive beaches of Sandy Hook in the north to the tranquil shores of Cape May in the south, beachgoers can bask in the sun, take refreshing dips in the ocean, or simply stroll along the shoreline, collecting seashells and enjoying the salty breeze.
The boardwalks of the Jersey Shore are legendary, offering a vibrant blend of entertainment, dining, and shopping. The iconic boardwalks of towns like Atlantic City, Wildwood, and Point Pleasant Beach are lined with amusement parks, arcades, food stands, and souvenir shops. Here, visitors can indulge in classic boardwalk treats like funnel cake, saltwater taffy, and frozen custard while immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere.
Beyond the beaches and boardwalks, the New Jersey Shore boasts a rich cultural heritage. Historical landmarks like the Cape May Lighthouse and the Barnegat Lighthouse offer glimpses into the region’s maritime past. The shore is also known for its vibrant arts scene, with galleries, theaters, and music venues showcasing the talents of local artists and performers.
USA Today did a poll to find the most beautiful beach in the US. They broke up the map into sections so we are focusing just on the Northeast. Two of the top 3 beaches are local beaches.
Take a look below to see if the beach you frequent in the Delaware Valley made the list.
