Tim McGraw Mourns ‘Beloved’ Family Patriarch
Tim McGraw posted a lengthy tribute to his Uncle (Tug McGraw’s brother) on his Instagram.
Tim posted a few pictures of Henry McGraw, one of his in his later years, and one baseball card early photo of when Henry McGraw played for the New York Mets. He wrote, “HENRY THOMAS MCGRAW (HANK) JAN. 21, 1943 – JUL. 6, 2024.”
“This weekend, we lost the patriarch of the McGraw family. Our beloved ‘Uncle Hank.’ He was just an incredible man. He had a way of lighting up any room he walked into without trying. He was a no-bs, straight shooter. Honest and truthful, even if it hurt. A true renaissance man, All American high school athlete, 11 years professional baseball, played guitar, sang beautifully, was an incredible leather and bead craftsman, and more than that, he was a good friend to all who knew him, and he loved with an open heart.”
McGraw continued, “Aw man, and he told the best stories! He was and continues to be a huge presence in the lives of our family and his friends. He was a legend and that legend will grow with each passing year in future generations of McGraws! We will keep his memories alive!! He loved, he was so very loved, and he will be terribly missed.”
He closed with, “So much more to say about him…. But I will stop for now. (heart emoji) U Uncle!!”

While on his 2024 tour, McGraw recently helped out a young couple with a gender reveal, revealing whether the couple’s baby would be a “Tim” or a “Faith.”
From the stage, Tim motioned to a lady holding a sign asking him to reveal the gender of their baby. McGraw said to the lady, “Bring that sign over here. Oh my gosh, we have a gender reveal. I’ll do it.”
Tim holds up the envelope and says, “Let’s see if it’s gonna be a ‘Tim’ or a ‘Faith.'” He opens the envelope and yells, “It’s a boy! We’ve got a ‘Tim!’ Congratulations, guys. Yes, I will sign it.”
He posted the fun exchange on his Instagram, captioning the post, “Pretty sure this is the first time I’ve done a gender reveal at a show.”
Many fans responded to the post, including one who said, “Gotta name him Tim or have his middle name be Tim.” Another fan commented, “I was there! It was a really cool and sweet moment. Great concert!!” One more fan wrote, “Awww! What a fabulous memory to have to tell!”
