Morgan Wallen rarely does interviews, but he did just that on his buddy Theo Vaugh's podcast, This Past Weekend With Theo Vaughn. In the new interview, Morgan talked about how his upcoming album, I'm The Problem, will have a different sound from his past music.
Wallen admitted that he can't keep putting out the same sounding music or his rabid fan base will wonder in his words, "What's he doing, he on mushrooms or something?"
Morgan continued, "A lot of the things that were successful in the past were like whiskey drinking, all that stuff, and I've almost explored every angle of that that's possible. Last album, I had plenty of trap beats and stuff like that. This time, I was like, 'Hey man, maybe let's tone that down a little bit.'"
The CMA's reigning Entertainer of the Year went on to say, "If I'm tired of it, they're probably tired of it. You can still get that swagger, you can accomplish certain things without that same thing."
Wallen concluded of the upcoming 37-song project, "A lot of my guys that I write with, at least for me when I was writing … that core group of guys, we had a good sense of what we were shooting for. I had to work harder. Just finding new angles and thinking up new ideas."
Morgan recently shared the release date for his upcoming fourth studio album, I’m The Problem: May 16. With the album combining his country, cross, and dirt-rock influences, the release will appropriately coincide with his inaugural, all-genre "Sand In My Boots Festival" in Gulf Shores, Alabama, May 16-18.
He said in a statement, "I have been a problem, for sure, and I’ve got no problem admitting that. But there are other sides to me as well. I’ve spent the last 11 months really trying to figure out, ‘Do I still want to be the problem? Is it time to move past that phase in my life?’ I think it probably is, and this might be the last time I get a chance to honestly say it.”
